The SolarWinds hack: Lessons for international humanitarian organizations

Abstract As humanitarian organizations become more active in the digital domain and reliant upon new technologies, they evolve from simple bystanders to full-fledged stakeholders cyberspace, able build on advantages of technologies but also vulnerable adverse cyber operations that can impact their capacity protect assist people affected by armed conflict or other situations violence. The recent hack International Red Cross Crescent Movement's Restoring Family Links network tools, potentially exposing personal data half a million individuals unauthorized access unknown hackers, is stark reminder this not just theoretical risk very real one. 1 2020 operation affecting SolarWinds, major US information technology company, demonstrated chaos cause targeting supply chain components. What does mean for what we learn it?
